Cant say i blame the bears either. The franchise tags are one of the few cards they hold, agreed upon by the players union i thought.

He just wants to get paid like Nate Clements i guess.

It'll only mean more money for him next year so i never really understood the short term view of players looking at the tag. Injury is the killer i guess.

And obviously benefits greatly from those around him. I understand wanting to cash in now while the Bears D are considerend hot and Rivera is gone.

Bears | Briggs says he's done in Chicago
    Mon, 12 Mar 2007 15:12:20 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs, who is the team's franchise player, said he is prepared to sit out the 2007 season if the Bears do not trade or release him. He went on to say he's played his last down for the team and will never play in Chicago again.

I think the bit (not copied so far) about him wanted to get away from Urlacher so he can be the MAN somewhere else is the most telling. The Bears did offer him a long term contract. They CANT negotiate on one until July or they will lose the tag for the foreseeable future. I do believe he just wants HIS OWN TEAM. Basketball style. He may get his wish and have no other good players around him somewhere.

I think he feel that he is benign overlook. And I can’t blame him. When you look at the Da bears defense you hear the so the export talk about Brian Urlacher Alex Brown Tommie Harris Mike Brown. Then you hear the name Lance Briggs .I be honest with everyone if we can sign him to a deal that will fit under our cup room .I would give up 2 1st rd pick to get Lance Briggs because he is that good

we wouldn't even be able to field one unit and would owe the next 10 years of pix to other teams
