I sold a pujols rookie card I had for $80 on ebay, so there's so interest, but only in the big star cards.

Was it a Topps? Didn't think so.

Actually if he really has complete sets of cards from every year since '59 he's got a very valuable collection. Older cards have held their value really well.

My point was that if he is still putting "TOPPS" cards in a safe deposit box he is a giant cockbag. I have 10's of thousands of them, in my fucking garage, because they are not worth the energy to take into the house. The end of card collecting started in '81 the final nail was in '89. Yes, people still make money off of them and that is because there will always be retarded fucking assholes with money to burn. I just prefer to spend my money on hookers and booze.

    yes it was..

    2001 Topps Traded #T247

It's currently going for on average, 40 bucks on ebay. I sold it during his monster year last year, before he got hurt. It's like the stock market though. I've got mark prior and kerry wood rookies that aren't worth the plastic protectors i put them in.

Usually, full sets are only worth a little more than the few big cards that are in them.

I meant just a plain old Topps card from the basic set, thanks for proving my point.

The basic topps set is for hobby collecting, not making money. I never disagreed with you about the status of card collecting. Why collect a whole set when you can card hunt on ebay, or get the hot rookie card posted on the cover of monthly card publications. Having a card in the beckett magazine's hot list increases it's value like crazy.

I spend less than $100 each year buying a couple of those low cost special topps rookie cards cards, and the results vary down the road.
