    No, you're wrong...

    sauté Definition # 88

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To cook food quickly in oil or fat. Similar to the word fry, but sautéing uses a smaller amount of oil or fat.

So your saying he's sauteing his eggs, not frying them?

You need to find a better definition than that. You need to be turning over the food to call it sauteing. Saute comes from the french verb Sauter, which mean, to jump.

    :whoosh:

If he's using a pound of butter to cook his eggs in, I'll agree they're being fried. If he's only using a little...enough to coat the bottom of the pan, technically they are being sauteed. The egg "jumps" bubbles and splatters as it's cooking and doesnt necessarily have to be turned over.

My Norwegian grandmother calls black pudding blood pudding. I can't bring myself to try it, and I'll try most anything.

Frying means simply to cook in oil or fat. sauteing is a method of frying, as is pan frying, shallow frying, deep frying, stir frying.

if you're sauteing, you're frying -- whether it be in butter, margarine, lard, shortening.

    you're a cook. shouldn't you know this?
