You're talking about basketball attendance being overreported as ticket sales rather than butts in seats, correct?

That's the way it is everywhere. The point is, they are separate sports and there is no correlation in attendance other than the universal trend of football being way more attended than hoops. Also, if I understood you correctly, that just strengthens the lack of correlation argument, because the ratio of attendees to sold tickets seems to be better in football across the board.

As much as I hate it, Football is king. It's like the golden age of the game right now, with no end in sight.

Harry just stop. You have your panel looking into it. Just let it go.

BTW The big C is just stirring up shit to make it look like he is doing something.

Frankly, I think that is all he's got going on.

No you are missing the ECONOMIC POINT.

You are a smart guy, don't let your desires outweight your intelligence.

There are only so many 'entertainment dollar' in any given area. Not like TN where people will drive from Nashville to Knoxville to see a game.

So if they play on Saturday right. And I have $1 dollar that I need to spend. Will Joe Q Charlotte spend it on UNCC football or save it for a Panthers home game on Sunday? Answer that question and that will be fine.

Harry from what I understand here in Nashville. Vanderbilt was the ticket to have and the game to go to on Saturday. The Titans show up and they can barely fill the stadium. They only sell out when TN plays here. And they have a 40K stadium.

There is no draw to go to those games now. Pro sports will suck the breath out of a college game. That being said, why are there no major pro sports expansions in college football towns. The Panthers are a perfect example, they didn't pick Raleigh did they, It is all the money. It's not about petitions or votes by the students.

Charlotte is an absolute horror as a sports city. The Panthers are excluded because it's the NFL. If UNCC gets football, who goes to the games? Fans in Charlotte don't even understand the game. The numbers indicate that football would be a success but the numbers lie.

No one ever said that a team has to have strong basketball support or it won't have strong football support, O' Confused One. The point was that UNCC's only attended sport is men's basketball, and that's because the team was good for a little while there. Now it's not, attendance is dropping again, and it wasn't exceptional to begin with. Given a fairly small residential student population, vast competition for entertainment dollars in the Charlotte area, and the likelihood that any new college football team would suck for an indefinite period, this is clearly a boondoggle.

Stop being stupid. Of course there is technically a chance that a brand new team could go undefeated, but the reality is that UNCC would need an established level of strong D1-A performance in football to get an invitation to a major conference. Therefore supporting a new football program with that pipe dream in mind is unreasonable.

Wait, when did HH become smart? I thought he was a guy who constantly lost arguments and misused words. Maybe you meant he likes to think of himself as a smart guy.

And as for why I'm responding to the subject, I'm a UNCC alum and liked my time at the school. It's my belief that the university would be better served by not wasting millions of dollars on a pointless football program, especially when my former professors tell me about budget cuts in numerous departments.

It's not a matter of "supporting football = perfect team" and that's not what he asked. Getting an invitation to a major conference requires football. It doesn't happen otherwise. The answer to his question is 'yes' and doesn't rely on the plausibility of the situation to be 'yes'.

Whether that should be a priority is another question, and whether it would happen (I'm inclined to say no, certainly) is another question. I don't care right now if they do get football or not, and it has no bearing on my life.

Quite predictably you're just saying this because you feel like arguing with me about something. No, just having a football team does not give you any sort of realistic chance of joining a major conference. The chance of it happening with no football team is 0%, and the chance of it happening with a 1-AA program is also 0%. Even the chance of it happening with a bad 1-A program is still 0%.

So as you well know, the idea of joining a major conference is not a realistic reason for spending the millions necessary to start a program from scratch. You're not dumb, so you certainly realize that, you're just looking to pick a fight.

Maybe that would change with some school spirit derived from football Saturdays. As it is now, even some Niner fans drive out of town to see UNC/State/Wake play on Saturdays. Some people are just football fans and want to see some damn college football. Can't really compare football with basketball. Basketball falls on any given day and is a game. Football can be planned and is an event. I wonder if Boise St went through this before they started up football?
