BTW, here's some more interesting parallels between Charlotte and UT:

UT has twice as many grad students, but the undergrads are very close and getting closer every year. DuBois predicts we'll have 25k enrollment in the next couple of years, and 30k+ (passing UT) in the next several.

Also, the prospect being discussed is supporting a DIAA football program (I believe it's 65 scholarships) not a 1A program (85 scholarships).

UNCC could have a decent sports program if they could just get it through their head that they are not, and will never be, a major sports program.

They need to add stands to their track and soccer field, start a division 1-AA football program, dump the A-10 and join the Southern Conference.

Good point. There is no shame at all in being Division 1-AA. Hell the Appalachian St Football team is a great program and story

ECU couldn't get into the ACC because the Tobacco Road snobs would never allow it. ECU won't get into the BIG EAST (unless there is a major change of thinking) because Greenville/New Bern/Washington TV market is on the small side. Geographically speaking the Pirates would be a nice fit (midway on the East Coast), but then again BIG EAST is more concerned about being a mega beast in hoops and a nearly nobody in football vs. being a balanced conference like most conferences are (ACC/SEC/Pac-10/etc.).

THE BOTTOM LINE: Football traditions take time to develop; Maybe when we all get into the 50/60 age range UNCC can be in a big time conference. For right now, just getting one started and starting off in the right conference would work for me. I would much rather play in the Southern Conference right now in Div I-AA in both sports vs. playing hoops in the A-10, which has hurt our level of visibility IMHO. At least SoCon get some of their games on FOX SPORTS NET. I mean, does UNCC even have a local TV deal this year  ? ?

Duke, UNC and NC State were a combined 6-30 last year in football. It can't get too much worse if Charlotte added football. I agree with SDS on the reason ECU never sniffed the ACC. Yea, the stadium in that pic is way to big, but it's not intended to be the actual stadium. We all know that.

I like how you completely made up a statistic that is absolutely ludicrous. Obviously students don't make up the majority of attendance, but they certainly account for far more than 3-5k.
Dumbass, I asked you how much coverage UNCC's sports normally get. I asked precisely because you can't make up the answer to that, since everyone knows that they're very sparsely covered. The local media doesn't care nearly as much about UNCC basketball as ACC basketball, and didn't even before their move to the A10.
The debate was about how adding football would impact UNCC's chances of getting into a "real conference," meaning one better than the A10. While the Colonial or Southern might be better geographically, either would actually be a step down in terms of conference strength.
Where did you "absolutely destroy" anything I said? Where is your "mountain of evidence"?

    You:
    • lied about how many students attend UT games
    • refused to acknowledge that students already don't sufficiently attend UNCC's existing sports
    • refused to admit that UNCC has never received much sports coverage locally
    • would need to be strong in football to be invited into a major conference
So everything I said was correct, but you as usual want to pretend that I said something wrong because you're bitter about past arguments. Remember, HH, you're the one that started the insults and you're the one who chose to pick a fight with me. It's not my fault that you make a fool of yourself.
