    • UNCC already has trouble generating attendance for its current sports, in part because the school has a heavy commuter population and its number of residents doesn't compare with most other state universities.
    • Given how little attention UNCC already generates, there is little reason to believe that football would somehow make it prominent in the local media.
    • Getting into a better conference would require not only having a D-1A football team, but one that would be of sufficient quality to be attractive. Given that the basketball performance has declined, it would have to be one hell of a football team.

Throw in all the other local pro sports that $ are being spent on.

First off, everything you posted was a personal opinion. But anyway:

False. Over 7500 students live within a couple of miles of campus. Almost all of them a short walk. On campus housing has grown significantly in the past decade and nearby off campus housing has boomed.

That front page Observer story and front page of the sports section follow up lend great credence to this particular point.

The CFI punches truck sized holes in your argument, as does the voter turnout for this issue. The students and alumni care.

I'm not certain that the vote will succeed, but I suspect it will. And the interest from non-9ers in the prospect of football is encouraging as well.

The nice thing about college football versus basketball, is that it doesn't go head to head with the pro game in town. The other night, the Bobcats gave out free tickets to UNCC students for a night that the 9ers had a home game. That won't happen in football. The dollars will be in play, but it works out well from a time perspective. Plus, the popularity of football currently dwarfs basketball, as much as it pains this here hoops fan to say.

Good lord, do you even have a conception of acceptable football attendance? 7500 would be an embarrassment. Go to an actual college football game and notice how many people are in the student sections. If you're not drawing at least 10k (and obviously you can't expect to get everyone to come) then you're not successful.
Because it's a one day story. Tell me how much coverage UNCC sports normally get.
Attractive to a conference, you idiot. ECU has tremendous fan support but they didn't get invited into the ACC or Big East because they're not good enough at those sports. UNCC would not only need to have a football team, but have a good one in order to secure the kind of invitation you're talking about. That clearly isn't going to happen.

So yet again you prove that you'll run your mouth without the slightest bit of knowledge about a topic. I enjoyed my time at UNCC, but they need to focus on supporting the sports they already have, and on continuing to develop the school's non-sport facilities.

I attended the University of Tennessee for 3 years, including the national championship year, and attended 90% of the home games during that time, and camped out for tickets a few times my first year. Obviously, it's a staggeringly new concept to me.

Because ONLY students attend games (big eye roll), and because UT puts maybe 3-5k student butts in seats for a home game. 7500 would actually kick ass.

No. It's actually been covered several times prior to that, and will continue to receive coverage as it evolves. It's also been covered numerous times by every one of the local TV news departments.

There's pretty much an open door invite from the colonial conference for us to play there, but I'd rather get into the SoCo ASAP.

    And, the insults begin.

And continue... unfounded and incorrect no less.

Collin is fun. When you absolutely destroy his arguments, he just calls you stupid and uninformed, despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary. Must have learned that from Sly.

    Harry,

TN only has 3-5k students because their 100K seat stadium is mostly taken up by wealthy boosters at $60 and up tickets. Oh and the sell out every game.

Think you can generate that much revenue at UNCC?

Unless the State Of NC decides they want to dump a ton of money on UNCC you aint getting a stadium. No stadium, no football team.

You've got the cause and effect relationship screwed up there. UT has added on to Neyland several times. If more students would show up, they'd add/allocate seats for them. As it is, there are always empty student seats in the upper deck sections, except for the big games.

Yep, they do. Has absolutely no bearing on Charlotte fielding a 1AA team, other than to suggest what's possible after 50 or 60 years, but it is definitely true.

    1. School already has an on campus stadium. Add bleachers to the other side and "voila".
    2. Memorial stadium is always an option
    3. The University already has tons of land to build a new one on. It would not be necessary to have it constructed day one. Rather, a funding drive would take place. This same argument was espoused about the Student Activities Center/Halton, and it was soundly defeated. Football has even more inertia than that proposition did.

So bascily, Colin and Trace are against the school fielding a 1AA football team, no matter what. Congrats. Your voices mean 1) crap and 2) nothing. :blast:

I will buy you a case of beer when it happens. How about that. However I am buying the case today. You can collect it on that first Saturday game.
