I'm saying K is smart for avoiding lose/lose situations...unlike Roy.

DURHAM - You'll never catch Mike Krzyzewski carrying North Carolina blue pompons or get him to put a decal on his car of a foot with a bit of tar on the heel.

But Krzyzewski said Sunday that he was pulling for North Carolina and coach Roy Williams the previous day when the Tar Heels dismantled Arizona 92-64 in Tucson.

"People might not think this, but I was cheering like crazy for Roy," Krzyzewski said Sunday. "... That win over Arizona was huge for our league."

The ACC, Pac-10 and SEC are jockeying for position atop the Ratings Percentage Index, a tool used by the Division I men's basketball committee to determine which teams to invite to the NCAA Tournament.

The nonconference win on a Pac-10 home floor gave the ACC a boost in the ratings. According to realtimerpi.com, the ACC led the RPI followed by the SEC and Pac-10 as of 9:22 p.m. Sunday.

Krzyzewski is crusading for more NCAA bids for the ACC, which he said has been "messed over" the past five seasons in terms of NCAA invitations.

Four ACC teams received NCAA bids last season, and none advanced past the Sweet 16. This season, seven teams -- North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Florida State -- are making cases for bids.

"We should talk about the league," Krzyzewski said. "Our league is terrific and always has been."

Arizona sucks ass. Not sure I'd make such a big deal out of that one. Now if they had beaten VA Tech or a very mediocre Gonzaga team...there's something to hang your hat on.

Bad thing is he can't avoid Feb 3. That will be a lose / lose situation for K.

witchita state was ranked in the top 15 earlier this year. I don't even know if they're getting votes now.
