That caught my eye, too. I'd really like to know why Belichik opted for Scarnecchia (sp?) over JD. Davidson sounds like a great match for the Pates offensive philosophy.

My point was that if they thought he was worth keeping, Belichick would have made a bigger effort.

Here's a pic, in case anyone's interested. He kinda looks like Kevin Smith to me...

Scarnecchia is one of the league's top line coaches. McDaniel, also, is considered a very promising guy.

I take it that Davidson left, and just didn't want to be in NE after being passed over. Not the best character trait, but not a terrible one.

Well, he was in his mid-to-late 30's, and if Scarnecchia is similarly aged, then it would be pointless for him to wait around to see if the Patriots' OC job opened up again, especially if there was interest from other franchises, which apparently there was -- both at that time and now.

It's not a good sign considering that he wasn't getting a promotion in Cleveland either. I imagine the decision was more Belichick's than Davidson's.

    from that link:

Good people swear by him. It doesn't make him a success, but I'm willing to give him some benefit of the doubt. It's not his fault I'd have rather had one of the QBs coaches.

Yeah, I noted that, too. Granted, it's an extremly subjective observation, but it's more than we've heard about anyone else on our staff.
