We have the tiebreaker on the rams, though, right?

NYG must lose Saturday to WSH (NYG has conf. record and head to head otherwise)
GB must lose to CHI (GB would have better conf. record at 8-8)

Both would be 7-9 and out.

4 teams left, provided all win.

    CAR 8-8
    ATL 8-8
    STL 8-8
    SF 8-8

In a 3 way tie or greater, you eliminate all but the highest ranked team in each division before going to the next step by using the divisional tiebreaker.

    Carolina (5-1) vs. Atlanta (3-3)
San Francisco (4-2) vs. St. Louis (2-4)

    Carolina vs. San Francisco

    Head to head: N/A
Conference record: CAR 6-6, SF 6-6
Common games, minimum of four: CAR 3-2, SF 2-3 Panthers claim NFC #6 seed.

We own strength of victory with STL if we need it. Will update that if SF loses. Not enough common games for the tiebreaker to be used there (and that's good because we'd lose otherwise.

As it stands now, a Panthers win coupled with losses/ties by NYG and GB puts us in. Anything else and we're out. We can only finish 6-6 in the NFC, while GB beating CHI puts them at 8-8, 7-5 NFC.

We'd have SF beaten on common opponents and would have the head-to-head on STL. Seattle could conceivably collapse and SF could win the west with 2 straight wins (haven't checked how we matchup w/SEA for the wild card), but that's very unlikely.

We lose the head to head with New York so we need them to lose. If we got in a three way tie with them we might get in ahead of them because they are third in their division while we are second. I am not sure what happens if it turns out to be a three way tie with New York, Carolina and Green Bay but I think Green Bay wins since the Giants get kicked out for being third in their division and then Green Bay has a better conference record.

All that really matters now though is that we beat the Saints next week. Otherwise we are out for sure and finish at that magical 7-9.

Final division ranking doesn't matter unless you are being compared to teams in your own division.

We'd get the shaft in a 3-way tie with NYG and GB.

    NYG 8-8, 7-5 NFC
    GB 8-8, 7-5 NFC
    CAR 8-8, 6-6 NFC

Panthers get eliminated and GB and NYG go back to step 1 of the 2 Club Wild Card format:

    NYG vs. GB

    Head to head: N/A
Conference Record: NYG 7-5, GB 7-5
Common Games, minimum 4: NYG 1-3, GB 1-4 **NYG #6 seed**

It's win and get 2 bits of help. Considering where we've been we are very lucky to even have this shot.
