Was at the main campus in Columbia, SC. Not the west coast campus. But you knew that.

You can ask the same thing about a lot of football teams who sell out their stadiums but no one comes to the basketball games and the stadium never sells out. People in North Carolina (Especially those that go to UNC and State) love basketball more than football and the Dean Dome is very often filled to capacity even though it holds 20,000+. Also, no one wants to see a 2-10 team play. State fills their stadium pretty good for a team that hasn't lived up to their talent in recent years.

I would also add, in SC, you are either a Clemson or South Carolina fan. There are not many choices, and there are no pro sports to compete with either. The South Carolina campus is scattered throughout the biggest city(and capital) of the state. It's only natural that they are going to draw fans.

in NC there is the natural basketball appreciation among the populace...Then you have 1000 colleges, it seems, to dilute the loyalty. Just my take.

Sure, NC has 5 I-A programs plus all the good I-AA. I think the number of I-A schools is eclipsed by only 5 or 6 other states.
