what is Gagne getting after only 15 innings in the last two years with major medical problems?

the price for decent pitching is going to go through the roof because the money is there to pay them

settle down, there, chief. Posting fee aside, the sox are paying this guy a max of $10 million a year ($52M salary; $8M in potential performances bonuses). that's less than what the royals are paying the aforementioned Meche and the same as what's the sox are paying Beckett. Yeah, the posting fee was outrageous, but salary-wise, they didn't overspend and it could wind up being a huge bargain.

What the addition of MazshooPork the already hard Fenway ticket is going to get a lot harder. Is the idea of ever building a larger stadium up there ever floated about?

Apparently the Sox are not happy with JD's medical tests.

Gammons said that Matsusaka's MRI's were clean.

LMAO. I'd like to see you tell Henry the 50 million posting fee didn't count.

in the end, does it really matter to Henry? ticket prices and licensed merchandise sales will go up and somehow I don't think he'll end up missing that cash a whole lot. so maybe the net annual cost of getting Matsuzaka ends up being around $14M for six years. If he ends up being as good as advertised, that's a bargain. even more so if the sox can win another title.

When you consider that it would have really been 75 million if it was part of his salary, I would say that it make a wee bit of a difference.

Anyway, the Sox will easily make that back over the life of the contract in Japanese revenues.

exactly. the biggest fuckup on the sox part was overestimating how much other teams would ante up for a posting fee. but that would have influenced salary negotiations. I'd imagine that if Boston had won negotiating rights with a $40M posting fee, his salary would have been around $10M more. either way, they end up paying a little more than $100 million to have this guy's services for six years. Let's say he wins 18-20 games a year. that alone, in today's market, makes the investment a good one if the sox make the postseason five or six times, it's an even better investment. Of course, there are only a handful of teams that could take that risk.

Saw the article about drew on ESPN. Seems that shoulder wasn't as clean as they would like.
