    PP,

I cook oysters every christmas. Turn the gas grill on. Get a cookie sheet or something that you can put the oysters in. Get an old towel and soak it in water. Put the oysters in the pan on the grill and put the wet towel on top.

Let em cook for 10 minutes- they'll pop open. Easier clean up. Fun, sitting outside drinkin beer.

several years back a friend from Manteo brought two bushels of oysters to a get together in Virginia. We just threw them right on the grill, no soaking, no pan, no soaked burlap sacks.

We grilled til they popped open - everyone just stood around the grill drinking beerm grabbing oysters for hours. Damn that was some good eating. Before that I had always said I didn't like oysters but I ate til I couldn't eat any more.

That may not be the "best" way to cook them but it sure couldn't have been any easier

That's what we do pretty much every Christmas when we go home to Wilmington (wife is from there) We are burned out on Turkey and ham from Thanksgiving so we eat a couple of bushels of oysters. I shuck a few in the back yard while others cook them inside. Seriously good eats

We go there pretty much every Monday using the dinner club card. Love those blackened oysters and Swordfish chunks

Best I ever had were at the beach. Cooked a bushel on a charcoal smoker. Just fill the water pan put the grill over it and fill it up to the top. Cooked them about 1.5 hours. They had just a hint of smoke taste.

the owner of Carrigg's seafood in Charleston told me the best way (other than outside roast) to cook oysters is to microwave them

he said you cant cook dozens but if you have nice selects it is the best way to cook them because it's the water that starts steaming them BEFORE the meat over cooks,, he was right

I think it took about 4 minutes to do a batch but practice first because it depends on how many you put there, what power your microwave is and the temp they are
