why DBs coach and coordinator? I'm allright with a high profile coach coordinating, there's no reason we can't pick out a good position coach also.

limited to the number of coaches available on the staff. Generally most of the Coordinators in college cover a position as well

These are the most likely candidates for the remaining jobs.

    LB Tommy Thigpen
    S&C Jeff Connors
    RB Randy Jordan
OL Larry Zierlein (or possibly Art Kehoe)
OC/TE Rod Chudzinski (or possibly one from Coker, Logan, Fedora or Harris)

#9 assistant will likely be a defensive coach, and "split" a position with Blake/Thigpen/Pagano: My best guess would be one from Browning (DL), Sanders (DB) or Hargraves (LB)

there's a limit on the number of assistants a staff can have? Learn something new every day.

I guess. I can see the merit in a coordinator being able to cover a position, I'd just rather have that extra set of skilled eyes compared to, for instance, last year having a DT coach and DE coach, if I read it right.

Yeah there's a limit, because the NCAA only allows 10 coaches at 1 school to recruit players. You could technically have an assistant not recruit, but the extra would be watched like a hawk to make sure he didn't and if you did follow the rules, it'd kinda suck to say "You'll be coached by Bob Smith the LB coach, but he can't talk to you because we have too many coaches right now."

For what its worth I'm betting Blake coaches only the DT and they keep Browning to coach DE. That doesn't necessarily make sense to me.

yeah, it could make a lot more sense than it does, but at the least, you do like Mack Brown did - you recruit the shit out of as many 240-255 lb athletes as you can and spread them around.

davis knows how to surround himself with talented assistants. Phase one is working nicely for UNC. It doesn't really matter how shitty he is as a gameplanning head coach, if you have the most talented players, and the best assistants, anyone can win 9 outta 10.

I don't know how it will all turn out but Davis is making me feel a lot more confident in the Heels football program. Being competitive every week would make me very happy.

Launching the Butch Davis era in Chapel Hill: The new Tar Heels coach just landed his first big recruit: John Blake, an ace recruiter himself who had been the D-line coach for Nebraska. Davis and Blake worked together with the Dallas Cowboys in the '90s. This is a big loss for Bill Callahan and a big get for Davis.

According to the World Herald, "Blake was a major part of Nebraska's efforts to get back into Florida this year. That so far has netted a commitment from Patrick Grant, a defensive end from Lauderdale Lakes. Blake also is the lead recruiter on several other Husker targets who remain undecided, including running back Noel Devine and defensive linemen Shukree Barfield, Joseph Townsend, Brandon Joiner and Chris Perry.

"In 2005, Blake helped Nebraska bag Marlon Lucky, Barry Cryer, Ola Dagunduro … all starters or key contributors this season – and secured the commitment of I-back Brandon Jackson the year before. The former OU player and coach also has bolstered NU's presence in Oklahoma in recent years."
