how long do you marinate the cheese before putting it between two sliced of buttered bread and then placing on a hot frying pan?

    are you serious?

have you ever eaten a slice of American cheese (AKA processed cheese squares) plain? you can make them taste a lot better by marinating them. about an hour in some whole milk mixed with a little Worcestershire sauce works best for me. any longer than that and the cheese may start to fall apart.

I use melted butter and Texas Pete's (or for you...Stinky Pete's). Mix up about 4 tablespoons of butter and 1/4 cup Pete's. Put your cheese in the mixture and marinate for 30 to 45 minutes.

    Good stuff!

I'll have to try that. My mom makes the best grill cheese sandwiches. I'll have to clue her in.

I have to admit, Texas Pete is best for marinating processed cheese squares. Tabasco is good. Frank's is good. But Pete's is better.

also: mix ketchup and Texas Pete's for a kick-ass dipping sauce.

Do you take the plastic wrapper off first?

absolutely. I usually get the big brick where the processed cheese is pre-sliced but not packaged in individually-wrapped squares. You can use Velveeta and cut it into whatever thickness you prefer. But beware! If you cut it thicker than the standard precessed cheese square, you have to marinate it longer.

I grill the cheese seperately, charcoal grill only, for a smokey flavor.

Never tried it that way. I have made them in the smoker on occasion.
