I have been wanting some oysters and can't make it to the coast until Christmas. One of the local grocery stores had them on sale for $4.00 a dozen so we got 6 doz. I have never roasted them in the oven so I thought I'd try. NEVER AGAIN. Wasn't sure how long to leave them in there in roast tray with water in the bottom to steam them. Waited until a few popped open and they were all over done. Ate them anyway. Thankfully half of them got cooked on the stove in a pot. Damn tasty

There is only one way to cook oysters.

    Build a fire.
Stack 3 cylinder blocks at the 4 compass points around the fire.
Place stolen stop sign paint side down on the cylinder blocks.
    Dump oysters on sign.
Cover oysters on sign with burlap sack they came in that has been soaked with water.

When they start singing, they are done.

I prefer raw oysters also. But if I have oysters from a local grocery store, I'm going to broil them. Those fuckers don't know how to handle them.
