I swear the NCSU coaching job is almost funnier than the BBall job.

BC's O'Brien leading football coach candidate at NC State
Boston College coach Tom O'Brien has emerged as the leading candidate at North Carolina State, multiple sources told the Press-Register today.

O'Brien, 58, is wrapping up his 10th season at Boston College. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and will meet Navy in the Meineke Car Bowl on Dec. 30 in Charlotte, N.C. O'Brien is 75-45 at Boston College. The Cincinnati native and former Virginia offensive coordinator is the winningest coach in Boston College history.

North Carolina State spokeswoman Annabelle Myers told the Press-Register she knew of no significant developments in the Wolfpack's search to replace Chuck Amato, who was fired Sunday.

Amato, who has posted a 49-37 overall record and 25-31 mark in the ACC during his seven years as head coach, finished this season with a 3-9 mark and failed to qualify for postseason play for the second time in three years. Amato had three years remaining on his contract.

ESPN reported Tuesday that Navy coach Paul Johnson had been offered the job. However, Raleigh, N.C., television station WRAL reported that the 49-year-old coach has not been offered the job, but has spoken with N.C. State athletic director Lee Fowler about the job. Fowler was unavailable for comment to WRAL on Tuesday. Johnson has also been mentioned as a possible candidate in Alabama's search to replace Mike Shula, who was fired last week.

O'Brien won the American Football Coaches' Association's 2004 Academic Achievement Award with a 100 percent graduation rate and received Honorable Mention status seven additional times during his tenure. He also was ranked No. 1 in the country by USA Today when the paper re-ordered the final 2005 football Top 25 by APR (Academic Progress Rate) score to measure a combination of athletic and academic success. O'Brien has won nine games four times in the last five years and eight or more games in six straight seasons.

O'Brien earned $733,626 last season at Boston College. Amato's total compensation package at North Carolina State totaled $995,000 per season.

Gotta hand it to the Wolfpack, they sure are playing it close to the vest. They need to hire a coach sooner than later, they are starting to get some unrest among committments.

ESPN says the Pack is focusing on Johnson.
Also, Chow is out ( thank God, don't want a 60 year old HC)..he'll end up at Stanford.

PackPride is lit up with threads announcing Tom O'Brien as the new HC and as many threads calling for Lee Fowler's dismissal. Pretty goddamn embarassing. They all think Lee should be listening to the fans on all this. I wonder how many of these fucksticks are actual alumni.

TOB has won like 3 out of every 4 games in the last 3 seasons. Why the fuck isn't anyone happy about that? I mean, if it's even TRUE that he's the new guy.
