Well, the Redsox have forked over 70 million to JD Drew for the next 5 years. This almost assures that Manny Ramerez will be wearing another uniform in 2007. I hope the Sox have Drew insured well, has he ever played an entire season?

I wouldn't be so sure Manny's on his way out. IMHMFO it's 50-50 he stays. Reports I've read show the sox asking for way too much in return for Manny, which leads me to believe he may stay. The trade talk may just be a way to show him they're trying to appease his wishes. this is the third year they've had to go through this shit, right. It could be all show, although some team could always come in with an offer Theo can't refuse.

That said, if Manny stays, this could be the Sox '07 lineup (assumes Lugo is coming in to play short. Theo seems to have a raging hardon for Lugo right now):

    Coco Crisp, CF
    Kevin Youkilis, 1B
    David Ortiz, DH
    Manny, LF
    JD Drew, RF
    Jason Varitek, C
    Mike Lowell, 3B
    Julio Lugo, SS
    Dustin Pedroia/Alex Cora 2B

Assuming the Sox sign Matzusasukikawa, all that will be left to get is a closer. That's a big if, but money doesn't seem to be an object with Theo.

The Sox may get 3 years of actual gametime out of him over the 5 years. Almost as bad as Dan Morgan for getting injured.

if only everone were as durable as Trot Nixon.

the interesting thing is what the sox will do with wily mo pena, especially if Manny does wind up staying. Pena's a guy who showed last year that he can only produce when given stretches of extended playing time. With Drew, Crisp and Manny in the outfield, at-bats will be hard to come by. I guess they could try to work Pena out at first base with the hopes they can move Youkilis back to third after Lowell's contract expires after the season.

who the fuck knows. Theo's playing with monopoly money right now.

It's hard to fathom the type of money they're throwing around atm. Drew, Lugo and the 51 mill they may lay out for the right to negotiate with whateverthefuckhisnameis and then having to pay him whatever Boras squeezes out of the Sox. Is baseball really generating this much income? I guess so but damn this seems out of control.

the sox are doing well enough to be able to afford this type of spending. every game's a sellout and they can raise ticket prices any old time they want and not be hurt by it.

I just wish the Braves could spend this type of cash. Those days are over in Atlanta with TW running the show.

I'd say Lugo leads off, Manny stays, sign the jap starter and they land Gagne to close

pretty good team on paper,, now if they only had a manager

ps: I would have kept Loretta,, for the cash they are tossing around he's cheap

Pedora has proved nothing in the majors yet

I agree about keeping Loretta. At his price, he is a steal on today's market. I still think Manny is headed to the West Coast.
