Brentson Buckner was on the Mac attack a couple of hours ago talking about the Panthers. This was the first time I have ever heard an honest assesment of the Panthers from someone with close ties to the organization. Among other things, he said he was a huge Weinke fan and thought that if he was given a fair chance that he would be an upgrade to Jake. He also said that Eric Shelton was actually pretty damn good, but Fox has his favorites and never gives him a chance. He also said that it is Fox, not Henning or Trgovac, that is responsible for alot of the things we talk about on this board. He said Fox is a great coach, but Panthers woes are a result of his style. He said that because Fox's style can be predictable, that it takes almost perfect execution by the players. That's why we are so inconsistent. He said that this is the reason why we seem to play well down the stretch. Well, i hope he's right and it better start tonight.

Just thought you guys might be interested to here this. I found it to be pretty informative, bc you would think he would know what he was talking about.

    Dunno.

Jake played well tonight. The offense did.

As a defense though, we had a very basic scheme going in, and didn't make the adjustments. Im not calling out Trgovic, just saying tonight, our defense let us down. First Campbell, now Garcia? Are you kidding me? When are we going to make an average quarterback look average??

As for Buckner, a lot of that is bitterness. He wanted more years. But he has some points, I guess. But Weinke an upgrade over Delhomme? Wow. Thats shocking that he would say that.

when we get better (faster &/or smarter) safeties, and Marshall gets a little more experience, and Gamble stops suckin, and Lucas gets healthy, and LBs who can cover a TE, and a little more consistant pressure with our "all world" high priced D-line, etc etc :newsmile30:

The thing is, these comments are all easily written off if simply suggested that Buckner has feelings against Fox. I'm not saying he doesn't dictate policy teamwide - that's his f'in job - but "won't give Shelton a chance"? Eric Shelton's had plenty of chances and he's still here. He's not as talented as Deangelo and I'll be damned if I could see Shelton going off for 150 all purpose yards.

worked to get to the nfc championship game a couple of times.

hell, if any team executes any gameplan "almost perfect", i'll bet they go to the superbowl.

grow up, buckner. you're not on TV talking about some other team -- this is your team. step up and execute perfectly.

Buckner's gone, isn't he? Or is my sleep-deprived brain missing something?
