    I believe he's more errant.
and while it sounds like the idea is "Smith is the only reason Delhomme looks good", Keyshawn is more than worth a damn, so there's no reason it falls all on Smith either.

Smith went for 1500 yards last year, and as I noted in another post today, 810 of those were YAC, leading the league, by 200 yards. So I think you have to give credit where credit is due.

Granted Key catches almost everything thrown his way but I dont think he is the kind of receiver who is going up real high for those overthrows. Part of the success JD and Smith had last year was Smith being able to go up and get his overthrows, if Im JD Im looking his way a little more, knowing he'll go up and get it, which is what A. makes us suck when SS doesnt play and , B. one of the reasons for JD locking in on him.

As far as Jake, I'm inclined to agree with Mags' earlier suggestions that there's a possible arm problem, but that doesn't explain the bonehead stuff (though he's pretty much always done that, somehow it just seems worse). I've been wondering if all is well on the home front. Sometimes there's things we as fans will never know about that impact focus, which in turn impacts performance.

But the OL/running game problems could be enough just in themselves.

It's obvious something isn't right. Not knowing, I can only guess about the mental aspect but it seems to me he's grown stale or somewhat complacent and may need to be jerked to attention. Hence my previous suggestion that he at the least be threatened with a demotion, even if only in an implied sort of way.

Certainly, when you're getting nothing but deep balls and WR screens. I don't know of anyone getting that type attention.

Remember the back half of this argument - that Jake was locking onto Smith and that's why Colbert sucked? Turns out Colbert just sucks. Key doesn't suck, and yet production's dropped.

    IMO, he's exactly that guy.

I don't think it's staleness or homesickness, or lack of desire at all. There's a lot of frustration, so something's possibly out of his control, though.
But you may be right, it could be a mental block.

I'm not trying to beat this to death but I'm fairly sure that Panthers fans are the only people who think Jake is any good. Having talked to football fans of various teams residing in various parts of the country it almost always comes down to something to the effect that if Carolina had a QB they could be damn good.

Don't know of analysts that would suggest it as such, overall. Whether some redneck Cowboy fan agrees with me isn't my gold standard.

Of course most do. We've had to watch and cheer for the likes of Reich, T-something for a game and then collins for a coupla years. Then it was B-line (who was a journeyman at best) for years, with a bad backup or two during his injuries. Then came Weinkster for a year (1-15), and then the holy grail, Holly Peete's husband. Then all the sudden, this cat from the sticks comes in and saves us from Peete, and we actually make to superbowl.

So why wouldn't the fans feel JD is a good QB. Look at what we've had to compare him to.

'Course, a bunch of Panther fans thought D Craig, and Lytle were second commings, too.

Jake is overrated, who has benefitted from a decent D, and pretty good talent around him.

Of course, there's a shit load of starters, especially in the NFC who are even worse, so we shouldn't complain too much - unles he regresses even more.

He needs be be humbled, tho, IMO. Like being replaced during or for a game after fucking up.

It kind of plays into what Meat was saying about who he would take over Jake. I don't think there are many fan bases that would prefer Delhomme.

Analysts seem to be pretty down on him as well. They were talking about how bad he has looked on ESPN radio with Salsbury and Dennis Green's son last night.
