Good hire, good fit, but I was pulling for Tommy Knox to get the position.

Why would he step down from 4AA to 2A?

Because its a step up from Duke? Because he would like to be a HC at the college level and NC State hasn't called yet ? Because he has many ex-players playing there? Because he has achieved all his goals at the HS level and he's bored? I dunno...but I bet he didn't look at it the same way you did?

LR is actually a very good school and quite expensive to say the least. I think Goldsmith will do a great job in the South Atlantic conf. He did take Duke to a bowl game if you can believe that.

Tommy Knox, would have also been a good fit. In the early 60's LR was quite strong. It would be great to see that again.

Go Bears, they were decent when I went there in the late 80s. A guy who was in some of my classes actually made it to the NFL. He was a reserve tight end who played mostly on special teams for the Steelers and later the Jags. I think he only played for three or four years but he probably made some good money doing it.

    Who's Tommy Knox?

The Independence Coach is Tom KNOTTS. Is there a Tommy Knox out there that's good that I've never heard of?

He was the QB Coach at Duke not two years ago. I think he scratched that itch and probably won't go back to college again until he's earned his state retirement (which I don't think he would be too far off from, though he's not very old at all.) I would think he wants to be a little more big time than LRC. They used to be something, back when everyone played in the state league, but not since dropping down to D-II.

No...that itch wasn't scratched. He was frustrated that he had absolutely no say so nor control of the offense. I'm sure he would prefer to go to a bigger school, but he won't find one at the HC level. It would have been perfect for him if he chose to climb that ladder to a bigger program.

I'll say this, its virtually unheard of for a HS coach to become hired as the HC in college at any level...Tommy KNOTTS would have been one.

That's good to know. My daughter starts up there in 2007 on a volleyball scholarship. I plan on seeing alot of there football games over the next four years. Hopefully Goldsmith will get them turned around.
