It wasn't his palm but more of a Bill Clinton thumb thing.

The AD & the player (an adult) said it was nothing and it looked like nothing. I'll take their word for it.

I have had coached bust hockey sticks on me to prove a point.
I have had coaches skate me until I threw up because I was not up to snuff in games or practice.
I have had those same coaches smack me on top of the head after making a good play or score a goal.

They never ended up in court or jail.

With Knight, you know what you are getting into. He hasn't changed in 40 years, and he's not gonna change now. If people really had a BIG problem with him, he wouldn't have been anywhere near the number of wins he has--he would have been out of coaching altogether years ago. He didn't reach back and hit him. The kid was looking down, and Knight (I am guessing obviously) felt the kid wasn't listening to him. He cracked him under the jaw to get his attention. Message sent.

Knight did not choke him like he did Neil Reed (I saw Neil Everett thrown in somewhere in here--Everett is an ESPN anchor).

As for rubbing his jaw...the video I just saw had him stretching his mouth out--my guess is he bit his tongue when Knight popped him.

Fire Knight over this? No. Reprimand? Likely, but only because of the perception. This was minor, IMO.

same here. Playing first base, I let a ball pass, next day at practice the coach spent a good hour throwing baseballs at my shins, either I blocked it, or my shins did, eventually I got the point and never let a ball pass. Don't play the game if you can't take some type of punishment.

Running is fine, yelling is fine. You don't hit your players.

You don't physically abuse your kids (like reach back and punch, kick, etc).

I see where you are coming from Collin, but this was a stern tap--nothing more.

Problem with Knight now is that anytime he breathes on a kid, people view it as a form of abuse.

Bullshit. Again, let me do to you exactly what Knight did to the kid and let's see how you respond. Saying it was just a tap is an outright lie. No, it wasn't a punch or a slap to the face, but it was a strong enough and violent enough hit under the jaw for his jaw to snap up and his head to snap back. Try to forget the circumstances and the people involved, then watch the video again. It is not just a tap.

    Brain:
Save yourself the trouble, moron. ESPN just showed the video again on Outside the Lines and Bob Ley said that Knight hit him with his "closed hand." Knight balled up his fist and popped the guy under the chin the way you would a volleyball. And no, you're a god damned idiot if you think Dean ever did something like that. I can't believe a supposed Carolina fan would say something so obviously stupid.
