actually Spurrier denied having a membership to Augusta. says he doesnt really play golf during the season. Hootie Johnson(now gone from Augusta) played football at USC so it was a wink-wink membership. I live in Columbia right now and I cant wait to move, but if I was a football coach I would rather coach at USC over UNC. football school, football conference, fans. if I was a basketball coach UNC would be the choice for the same respective reasons.

Actually I think those would be pretty good reasons for taking the UNC job. USC has unreasonably high expectations because of all that fan support and having no other sports worth a damn, so you had better win. I imagine that even Spurrier will start catching heat in the next year or two if he doesn't make the Gamecocks more competitive. Meanwhile UNC has more money, is a far better place to live, has better facilities, and doesn't have the same level of pressure to win because of it being a basketball school. The only two edges USC has are fan support and recruiting, since there is less competition for prospects in S.C.

its definately a mob mentality with gamecock fans, good and/or bad. Chapel Hill is a much better place to live, and all that but the peolple in Columbia love the football. Im a Tar Heel fan so I see it outside looking in. I wish USC was still an ACC team, just for geographical reasons, but Gamecock fans wouldn't trade that for SEC football.

now listening to fans here during basketball season sounds just like Tar Heel fans talking about football. " we have the facilities, money why are we not a top 25 team, why not like Duke, UNC". its a trip

Yeah, it's really lucky that Roy Williams finally decided to come because life was going to be hell for anyone else if they didn't get the program on track in a hurry.

I find it funny how Freak is all of a sudden an expert on schools and the best coaches they could ever hope for. Hell, if SC can hire Holtz and Spurrier in succession, there ought to be hope for damn near everyone.

Don't agree totally with that. SC is forever getting raided by big-time programs, but wrt in-state competition, yeah.

As an aside, if you are a member of Augusta, you can't really tell anyone/media.
