No, but Brown was basically the first time UNC ever took a chance on a less than established coach. Since they haven't had success with promoting an assistant (Torbush) or the NFL almnus route (Bunting), so now they'll go back to an established guy. Remember that the national media thought Spurrier would take the UNC job, not the USC job, so it's not as if Carolina is some low profile hire.

See above. The national media thinks of UNC as a better job than USC, so there's no way we're settling for someone like Skip Holtz. Head coach at a I-AA school (which I'm sure you didn't know UConn was until 2000) is not exactly a huge achievement, and he was only an assistant at those other two schools because of his father. I've already admitted that he hasn't been a complete disaster at ECU like I thought he'd be, but he doesn't have a winning season either and isn't anything as a recruiter.

The idea that Skip Holtz would even be considered for the job is laughable.

Maybe they'll try to steal Jerry Moore from Appalachian like they did Mack Brown.

Oh Collin...always with the jabs. Yes, I DID know UConn moved up from 1AA recently. Right after Holtz left. And I'm sorry...UNC and USC don't compare. You have zero fan support and a tiny stadium. Fans don't travel. Yes...USC has sucked ball sacks for years. But our stadium is huge...gonna be close to 100,000 in 2 more years...our fans travel with the best of the SEC...and we sell out every game. A coach is going to be much more interested in that situation than playing second fiddle to basketball. UNC is a basketball school...the fans don't even pretend it's anything more.

All of this is rampant speculation by the ECU conspiracy theorists propogated by those two homer hacks on the local radio here.

Hell, they make prime time sound like quality radio.

It may never happen...but I've been mowing the lawn and listening to the UNC game with headphones...they are AWFUL. They remind me of USC the last year of Brad Scott's reign...then it continued through Holtz' first season.

You didn't act like it. If you knew that UConn was I-AA under Holtz then you should have known enough not to mention that as some kind of qualification for him. You don't get hired by a major conference school based on I-AA success (not like he really won anything at that level either, though).
Didn't the national media think Spurrier's top choice was going to be UNC? Weren't they surprised when he chose USC? Yes to both. Clearly the Gamecocks have far more fan support, but USC is a dump and always has been. It's not a premier program any more than UNC is, and as noted, our facilities are better than yours too.

Fair enough, there is an exception, but can you honestly think of anyone else? Plus Tressel won multiple I-AA national championships and has the highest winning percentage in I-AA history, and he'd been an assistant at OSU previously.

Hardly any truism has no exceptions, but it's still true in 99.99% of cases. I know you're just mad about losing today, though.
