That's the latest rumor buzzing around.

He kicked ass at UConn. At USC his father had him as offensive coordinator in name only...so what he did there wasn't really representative of what he CAN do. Looks like he's turning ECU around.

With the time spent at USC and the time at ECU, he's very familiar with the high schools and coaches...

This would NOT shock me if it happened.

I would kill myself if this happened, so I guess that's reason enough for you to hope it does. Skip Holtz is a better head coach than I thought he'd be, meaning that his teams aren't a complete disaster, but he's nowhere near a "good" head coach. He's not even average. UNC will get someone much, much better.

    Well...you're right.

Aside from your suicide...I still think he'd be good. UNC isn't in a position to get a big time guy. They need an up and coming guy. Skip fits the mold. Young...head coaching experience...has the appropriate contacts in recruiting. We'll just have to see after the season.

Well they're not going to take a head coach away from an elite program, no, but they'll be one of the very top if not the top job available this spring. UNC and USC really aren't that different in anything except fan support. Hell, UNC even has better facilities. And just to reiterate, Skip is not a good head coach. He didn't pull off any recruiting coups at all at ECU, and while he hasn't been completely clueless on the field, it's not like he's even made them a .500 team in a pretty weak conference.

USC is in the process of a 100 million dollar upgrade. Adding another deck will put the stadium at 92,000+. Not to mention they are on TV almost every week and are in the SEC. Fan support (as you said) can't be matched.

Who do you think UNC should target? Cutcliffe? He should be in high demand.

Another question...what's better, a kick ass DC, OC, OR a successful coach at a smaller program.

I favor Chizik, although Cutcliffe would be a strong candidate as well.

I guess if the money was right he might go. I wonder, though, if he thinks it's worth it.

Holtz would jump all over the UNC job

but I agree with collin - they'll hire somebody more established. They might ge better off with an up and comer ( like Mack Brown was) but he was a hire of a life time. For every unknown that makes it big there are a lot more than are just future assistants

Not sure about Brown's background before UNC, except he was making strides at Tulane or somewhere. Was he that much better than Holtz is, even given Holtz achievements at UConn?

So...Skip was an assistant at Notre Dame and S. Carolina. HEAD Coach at UConn and ECU...his next step would be to go to a UNC type program. I think he'd do fine there.
