    A Greensboro-based chain called Cookout bought the old Herlocker's Park Drive-in site on North Tryon Street, according to county land records.

    Herlocker's, which has been in business on North Tryon since 1960, closed in August after landlord Velma Ratcliffe decided to end the restaurant's lease. Ratcliffe could not be reached for comment.

    She sold the property to Cookout of North Tryon Street Inc. on Sept. 19, according to the Mecklenburg Register of Deeds office.

    Herlocker was good stuff. But ALWAYS gave me the shits...within 15 minutes of eating....

    them Ratcliffes owned a lot of stuff. Use to be a 9 hole golf course right there (Paradise) they owned and I think they owned Eastwood and a course in Salisbury. I believe the UNCC golf team use to practice at the Ratcliffe courses.

    never ate at Herlockers

    but for a chain outfit Cook-Out throws out some mean burgers and milkshakes.

    i used to eat at the first Cook-Out in GSO all the time...it's my all-time favorite burger place...there's not even a close second...which is Outback
