also factor in having to make sure your players are going to class, and passing, etc. Steve Spurrier just bought one of the many new condos around Williams Bryce and cited one reason being he could use it to crash after a long night at the office

collin, he's not a good head coach. maybe a good assistant. maybe a good NFL assistant, maybe a good D1 assistant. he isnt a good head coach. there is a big difference. some guys have "it" and some guys dont. his teams, even the more successful ones (above .500  ) were sloppy, penalty prone and subject to swings in consistent play. you never know what you're going to get on any given saturday with a john bunting coached team. give me somebody who pays attention to detail, somebody who gets the little things right. someone who prepares well. losing is one thing but playing shitty football is another. i can accept the fact that talent comes and goes. i can accept the fact that unc football isnt notre dame or michigan, ive been around long enough to know that. but i do know that you can take a group of kids and coach them up to the point that they at least look like they have a semblance of a football IQ. look at what rutgers and furman did to us (sorry, we need to schedule "easier" teams, my bad)....did we lose THAT much talent?.....torched by the run against one and the pass by yet another. our guys are lost. he can make all the excuse he wants to the press but it wont help when the whistle blows on saturday. his guys will be lost again at clemson.....another ass beating. not a loss, but an ass beating. last in several defensive categories among ALL ACC teams, Wake, Duke, NCSU name them off. we have yet to face the meat of our schedule and yet we are getting bombed. bunting must go.

I'm not saying he's a great coach, just that if you think it's easy to find a good one then you're dreaming. Carolina could very easily get worse under their next guy.

I have to agree with Village Idiot's rant up there. So many games under Bunting the Heel's never even look competitive. Whether it's to a weaker opponent like Furman or giving up 600 yards to Utah or getting completely waxed by Louisville.

Beating State is nice and upsetting a Miami or FSU is cool but they can't ever seem to win the ones that really matter. Blowing the game against an average Maryland team last season with a bowl berth on the line was a prime example.

I'm sure the Heel's can do worse than Bunting but it's hard to get too excited about the future. He may recruit decent classes but most of the high ranked recruits seem to screw up off the field and get booted or they play full back one year, defensive end the next.

Hell Dailey will probably be a defensive back next season.

I was at that game. [IMG] Your points are all well taken, I suppose I've just actually lost faith that Carolina can be legitimately competitive in the ACC. I don't see it and I don't buy it. State spent all kinds of money and got some of the best recruits N.C. schools have had since Mack Brown, and yet they couldn't do shit once Rivers left. I suppose I'd just rather deal with mediocrity than turn over a coach every couple of years and risk becoming Duke.
