    prolly right.

defensive coordinator....Chuck Amato would be nice if he loves NC State like he says he does.

No, he's thinking about getting out of coaching all together. The reports are that he's getting burned out on coaching and that he wants to spend more time with his family. There is almost no chance that he leaves Pittsburgh to coach State. Seriously, that's the nonsense crap that Wolfpack fans have been babbling about forever, and it's just crazy talk.

It wouldn't suprise me at all if he got out altogether either. But the college job is much less stress and time commitment and he'd still probably be able to get some decent coin from State. Plus, it'd be a relatively no lose proposition for him.

I don't read the State boards. Just putting 2 and 2 together.

No, actually college jobs are more of a time commitment, as several coaches who have done both have stated. The difference, obviously, is that in addition to all the normal coaching you have to do, in college you're burdened with recruiting as well. And I doubt there would be less stress either, at least for Cowher, since he's had things pretty good in Pittsburgh. Anyway, Cowher has been a head coach for the last fifteen years so I think he's probably about done with that, at least for a while.

Really? All I ever hear about is the 16 hour days during the season and the only getting a little while off during the offseason to recharge. I realize that you have recruiting in college, but I would still think you'd have more downtime overall - including not sleeping in your office for 4 months a year.

Anyway - like I said, it wouldn't suprise me if he left altogther either. He's got to have some good money put away and likely could get a high paying job as a studio guy too. I agree with you that if State fans are delusional if think that they can somehow convince Cowher to take the job by their unique situmatation. But if he calls up and says he wants the job, they'd certainly give it to him.

Some high type A personality types can just walk away into the sunset. Most can't though. And as I don't know Bill Cowher - and I'm assuming you don't either - we have no idea what he's gonna do.

Edit - and it's not like it's unprecedented for a head coach to leave an NFL team for his alma mater. Exceedingly rare, but not unprecedented.

Agree with Collin here. Recruiting has become a 365 day a year job. That takes a lot of time...

If Cowher leaves a Super Bowl calibur team to go down to college to coach the N.C. State Wolfpack (even with personal reasons factoring into it) he is the biggest idiot on the face of the earth.

I think you're getting confused. The college game is the one where you hardly have any off time. NFL coaches have it a lot easier during the off-season, for while they're still breaking down film, they aren't doing that and coaching, and thus they aren't having those long days. As for how much time an NFL coach spends at the office, it depends on the coach and how obsessive they are. Jon Gruden lives at the facilities because he's a workaholic, but an average coach might only do that two or maybe three nights a week. Seriously, college is a lot more time consuming. It isn't even close.
