I woke up Saturday morning and my ankle was sore. No big deal. Just sore. No swelling or anything. I did my usual errends, shopping etc. but when I woke up Sunday it was much worse.

It's gotten worse as the day goes on. Now, it's very, very sore but still no swelling. It hurts on the top front part of my ankle just to the inside. I can put weight on it but it hurts like a muther if I flex my foot up or inside towards my body. I actually put a bandage on it for a while but that made it much worse.

I figure it's a mild sprain or pull but the no swelling thing has got me a little worried. I still can't figure out how you spain an ankle in your sleep.

I sprained the other ankle before playing football and in that one there was a loud pop and a lot of swelling. I was on crutches for almost a week.

    Anybody had a similar injury?

it's muscle related...throw some icy hot on it and stop stretching it/flexing it.

31 is kinda young for gout, but it sounds like thats what it is. Go to the doc and he'll draw a uric acid level and tell you for sure.

Well, Gout would really suck. It doesn't conform to all the symtoms. Gout has swelling and redness and I have neither. I'm only overweight by like 10-15 pounds, I don't drink except on rare instances and my diet is pretty good. It doesn't run in my family. I do have poor blood circulation though. Uggg, Gout just sounds nasty.

I also forgot to mention that I've got skin discoloration around the inside of my ankle foot but I've had that for a while, probably a year or two. It doesn't itch or hurt at all and I had up til now just thought it was dry skin or just irratation from my shoes. It has always seemed to wax and wane.

The ankle feels better today but I had it up all last night and I have a desk job so I've been off of it for 90% of the day so far. If it's still very painful in another day or so I guess I'll have to visit the family doc. I just hate to go and it end up being a mild sprain.

Getting old really, really sucks. 31 shoud not be getting old.

I think we have a winner. Each day it is less and less sore. Here, 6 days later and it's almost 90% although if I were a DB for the Panthers I'd still be day to day because I'm scared to cut hard on it.

It's possible it was gout but we've got two guys here at work who have it pretty bad and both seem to think based one our converations that I sprained it.

Either way this has motivated me to go get checked out anyway. It's been too long since I just had a physical.

a simple test should clear things up. certainly you would know if you sprained your ankle bad enough to feel the impact for 4-5 days. how could you not?
