Can you think why when I decrypt with decryptor or now imgburn it ask me for a (DVD -) blank instead of a (DVD +)? I thought the "+" was more universally liked?

dont know.Paul. I just use anydvd and clonedvd.Really all you need

    www.slysoft.org

Anydvd runs in the background and just use Clonedvd to burn...burn a dvd in less than 20 minutes.Plus anydvd is contantly updating for new protection.Look a the updates for January alone.

    AnyDVD History
    5.8.3.1, 2006 01 21
    - New: Added support for a new version of the Sony Arccos protection
as found on "KAENA" R2 (German) to the option to remove
    "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
    - New: Added support for Microsoft Windows Vista (Beta 2)
    - Fix: Closes connection after automatic update check

    5.8.2.1, 2006 01 11
    - New: Added support for a new version of the Sony Arccos protection
as found on "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" R2 (Swiss German) to the option to remove
    "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
NOTE: This Arccos version is not yet supported with DVDShrink and
Nero Recode. With elby CloneDVD 2.8.5.1 the quality bar will not work,
but this is only a cosmetic problem.
We will try to support this Arccos version better in the future.
    - Updated languages

    5.8.1.1, 2006 01 07
    - New: Improved the function to remove unreferenced VOBUs. This fixes
problems (Error message "invalid navigation structure") with DVDShrink
and Nero Recode with some titles.
    - Fix: Alpha DVD copyprotection detection. Some titles (e.g., "The Fifth
Element - Remastered Deluxe Edition" R2, German) were incorrectly
identified as protected with the "Settec AlphaDVD" copy protection.
    - Updated languages

    5.7.3.1, 2006 01 02
    - Important: When installing this version over an existing
installation, you must reboot your machine. Otherwise the changes
made in the AnyDVD device driver will not have any effect!
    - New: Added skipping of error zones between title sets.
This allows to make 1:1 backups with CloneCD or DVDDecrypter of
    newer Arccos protected titles.
    - Change: Removed replacement of error zones with "valid material",
as it had undesired side effects with Nero Recode and RipGuard
protected DVDs. So the "Pack Header Error" warnings in DVDDecrypter
are back again. But don't worry, when using AnyDVD it is safe to
ignore "Pack Header Error" warnings in DVDDecrypter.
    - Added Brazilian language
    - Added Korean language
    - Updated other languages

    5.7.2.1, 2006 01 01
    - Happy new year from SlySoft!
    - Important: When installing this version over an existing
installation, you must reboot your machine. Otherwise the changes
made in the AnyDVD device driver will not have any effect!
    - New: Improved the function remove unreferenced VOBUs. This fixes
problems with some titles, e.g. "Unstoppable" R2 (German).
    - New: Error zones on RipGuard/Arccos/PuppetLock protected titles are
now replaced with "valid material". 3rd party tools like DVDDecrypter
will now work better (no more "Pack Header Error" messages).
    - New: Better support of elby CloneDVD2 when copying Arccos or
    RipGuard protected titles without Menus:
Eliminates "hang" on standalone DVD Player and Audio "out of sync"
    problems.

and off course I only use this to back up DVDs I have purchased

Well I "think" that the problem all started when I downloaded the new imgburn (DVD Decrytor clone) It would decrypt fine but when I clicked on Shrink it encrypted fine but would only burn to a DVD - disc? There is a setting in Shrink to what type of media to burn to but it was only DVD-4 and DVD -5 and custom?:wtf23: Anyway I did a spyware search using SpyBot, AdAware and Yahoo Spy thing and found a few things (cookies and such). Then did a system restore to last week, (pre imgburn) and everything is running fine. Decrypted and burned XXX State of the Union, and Constant Gardener. Next up Lord of War. :trophy:

Was this a download for purchase or just a download. Of course it's for DVDs purchased. Need backups in case the kids ruin a disc with a knife or use it for a coaster

    Bootay,

I have a question for you, in your first post in this subject you stated that you were able to re-encode a DVD in about 15 minutes. the quickest I have been able to do that is about 2 hours. I know that the speed of the CD ROM and burner can affect how quickly it reads the DVD as well as the burning process, this may explain why it takes another hour or so to rip the DVD, as well as taking about 45 minutes to burn (my burner is only 2.4x). I just don't understand why it is taking 2 hours to re-encode the movie, that is sitting on my hard drive, so that it can burn.
    :banginghe

    any ideas?

    thanks

DVDShrink, with the extra analysis, sharpen, etc. options on would take FOREVER to re-encode. Without those options, (in the version I was using at the time that didn't have the "deep anal-ysis" option), it would go very quickly on my machine, which is a junker by today's standards.

Today, using AnyDVD/Clone2DVD, the whole rip, re-encode, and write process is 20-25 minutes max. I'll bet with a 2-hard drive setup (to split temp files and such) and a core2duo CPU, a 16x writer (instead of the 8x I have now), I'd cut that in half.

If you have a 2.4x burner, spend $30 to buy a new one. it's worth it.
And if you do this a lot, get a separate dvd reader so you can do this without having a two-step process to your hard drive and then back to the writer...

It depends on your burner. I had nothing but problems until I switched to DVD+R. Still can't burn DVD+RW's, but that's not a big deal to me. Search for your drive and media online. Documentation should tell you which one it prefers. My is a Sony/Lite-On. DVD+R for anything that's going into the DVD player. DVD-R for data works fine.

OK.... DVDShrink doesn't work worth a piss anymore, and neither does anything else I've found (except for AnyDVD which costs an arm & a leg). Does anyone have any ideas of what I can use that WON'T cost me $100 for software? FREE software is pretty much the only option I will consider.
